Earthing control system for mobile and fixed plant components
Newson Gale Earth-Rite OMEGA II
The OMEGA II system allows you to include electrostatic earthing monitoring as part of larger process plant control and monitoring systems. The plant can only be started up with a resistance of less than 16 Ω, otherwise the system will not allow the plant to be started. The system can be programmed between from 2 to 600 Ω.
The OMEGA II system is designed to be mounted on a rail (35 mm, DIN standard) in control panels. The system gives the possibility to verify the resistance between two points, and also offers a relay switching function on the output with a user-defined setpoint.
System application
- Monitoring of the temporary earthing condition of all movable conducting elements of the process plant
- Continuous monitoring of permanent plant elements in zones 0, 1, 2, 20, 21, 22
- Control of simple devices, such as float switches in dangerous areas
Important
It can be difficult to ensure proper earthing of the rotating tank or rotor because, due to the design of the bearings etc., it is not always possible to rely on the connection between the shaft and the machine body. A common method of ensuring continuity of the earthing circuit is to use a earthing monitoring module to test the earthing connection of the tank or rotor by means of a pair of carbon brushes or a slip ring on the shaft. Such modules can also be used to test the connection of the major permanent plant components, such as large tanks for flammable liquids, to the ground.
