Reasons for the nomination
In 2012 WOLFF GROUP™ completed the first stage of one of the largest European projects in the area of explosion safety to have been recently implemented in the power industry. We can already state that with regard to the scale of difficulty of the scope of works carried out and the amount of explosion protection system components installed, it was the only project of this type in Europe. Most importantly, its implementation had a significant effect on the level of safety of a few thousand workers and the assets of the power plant and the combined heat and power plant (five entities in total) owned by EDF – an worldwide energy concern.
In December 2012, after a year of intense work, the first of the two stages of the contract was completed. It covered the installation of explosion protection systems for 63 out of 96 pulverizers, which corresponds to 75 % of the whole undertaking. The works, carried out in the turnkey system, progressed smoothly and were completed on schedule. They covered as many as 15 power units operating at the power plant in Rybnik and in the combined heat and power plants in Kraków, Wrocław, Gdańsk and Gdynia. It should be also emphasized that the system implemented in EDF companies was based on one of the state-of-the-art solutions available in the market – explosion suppression and isolation system (HRD).
